BYU-I

As of Wednesday, we are the  newest future residents of Rexburg, ID!! Totally random, I know! Cole has another year left of his PhD, but an opportunity came up, we took it, and we are going with it.  The position is a 1 year temporary position as an instructor at BYU-Idaho. He will be an ABD (all but dissertation). We have a friend currently working in the Department of Home and Family. He let us know that this position was available. It was not open to the public, but through his recommendation we were able to apply. We then got an interview and then offered the position. Cole's last year of the PhD is reserved for client hours and working on the dissertation. Cole is desperately trying to get all his hours done this summer before we go. Then he will finish up his dissertation while he is working so we can still graduate May 2014 like planned.

This idea had taken lots for warming up for me. Idaho? Really? I never pictured, or wanted to picture myself there. But I know Cole will love teaching there, income and benefits sounds great (no matter where it is), it will look great on a resume, and with Cade starting school in the fall I am liking the idea of a heavy LDS influence. Plus how can you not be excited about your first real job out of school?! And I am actually looking forward to the process of de-cluttering and starting over with new place to live. With that said, we are terribly sad to be leaving Manhattan a year sooner than planned. We have come to love it here.

The kids were, understandably, kind of confused. Cole made a little powerpoint presentation about where we are now, what he is doing, and why we are moving and to where. Then we showed them some pictures of what Idaho looks like. Cade was only really happy about it when we told him there are no tornadoes in Idaho (something he talks and fears about almost every night). Rylee knows we are moving and just wants to make sure her blue blanket is coming too.

Cole needs to be there August 26. So we packed our first and only box today, we have no idea where we are going to live, and Cole is putting in 12 hours days (between teaching and clients) right up until we leave. So lots of work to do, probably some high stress levels but we are grateful for this opportunity!

Congratulations! Sounds like a fun adventure. That will be so nice not having to worry about where Cade goes to school for a year. Good luck with all of the preparation and moving!
