Valentine's Day

It is funny to see how our Valentine's Day festivities have evolved over the years. From extravagant gifts (newly married), to small gifts (real life setting in), to nothing (being students), to kid friendly (family life). But today we had fun and I wanted to document it. We started the day with pink pancakes and then had a pink smoothie later in the day. Rylee loves pink so you can imagine how much she enjoyed it. Last year Cole took Rylee on a date and I took Cade on a date and it went over really well. We wanted to do something similar this year but one on one dates are no longer an option with a growing family so we changed it up. Cole and I planned a little scavenger hunt for the kids. We used one of the buildings on campus that Cole has access too. They had to find little pink hearts with clues on them that told where the next clue was.

And then they were off...

Some hearts were harder to find than others...

Cade enjoyed being able to read some of the words on the clues.

The last one lead to the room where Cole teaches most of his classes. They had a message there...

They found their loot!

Then there was a surprise last clue for mommy to look under the piano bench....

Haha-needless to say we had a fun, frugal, family Valentine's evening. Happy Valentine's Day!!

Some firsts...

We have had some firsts I have failed to document.

First baby tooth to go!

It was loose for several days and then one morning he said,"I think I am going to lose my tooth today." I took a look at it and it was sideways. So I suggested he start pulling it (and hoping he wasn't going to get queezy about it and want me to do it) and so he did. And out it came! So that night while we were playing tooth fairy, right as we were at his pillow he totally sits up and looks around! We quickly acted like we were checking on Rylee. We hurried and slid his 2 quarters under his pillow as he laid back down. We left laughing that we almost failed at our first tooth fairy attempt.

Next is Rylee's first day of preschool. It was the end of January. She had just finished breakfast and she came to me like this and said, "I'm ready for school!" She doesn't go until after 1.

Then later when it really was time to go...

She was a little slow to warm up (which is normal for her) but now she loves it. It is nice for her to have something to do. Lately, I have been not very energetic and creative so I am glad for her to have an activity just for her. There is an observation room where we can go spy on her. Cole and I take full advantage of that. Cole teaches all his classes in the same building so sometimes get to see him during the day as well.

Tonight after dinner Rylee was in a super talkative mood. She can be so animated and expressive. It cracks us up. At one point Cole tried holding her arms to her side while she talked. Within 5 seconds she was frustrated and pulling to get free. She just can't talk without using her hands. Cole says she is just like me. Here is a video of tonight. She was asking Cade about kindergarten. So we were talking about what both of their schools are like. Nothing special-just trying to document normal happenings around here :)
