Halloween Party

Last night was our church Halloween party. There was trunk or treat, a chili and cupcake decorating contest, and games all night. We went as a family of pirates. I borrowed Shan's pirate costume, we put together a costume for Cade, and Cole's words were, "I do not dress up." So he settled with something on his head and an eye patch- heaven forbid he actually wears the eye patch on his eye! ;) Still we had the effect. There were lots of other cute themed families dressed up but my camera battery died so no shots of them.

I think Cade made an adorable pirate!

Doesn't he look like a big mean pirate with his binkie?

So I was pretty sure that when I signed up for cupcakes it was a contest. So the small competitve nature in me came out and I wanted to go all out. So I spent all day making witch cupcakes. When we got there they only judged the chili. The cupcakes were prizes for a cake walk. Bummer. All that cuteness just to get eaten. But I don't think I was the only one mistaken-all the cupcakes were pretty decked out.

Spitting, Crawling, Dancing, Screams

Cade is happy because he is learning to do many new things. Sorry for our indulgence, but this is for his "far away" family who doesn't get to see him as much as they would like.

Spitting (and posing for the camera)

Out with the flop, in with the crawl!

Check out these sweet moves! (He learned them from his Father)

What's the first thing you say when you look in the mirror?

BYU Blue

Today was BYU's homecoming weekend. Earlier this week Cole was moping that we were not there to celebrate it. He was also bummed that he could not go to one of the many places around Provo to get free pancakes (his favorite breakfast). So we decided to throw ourselves a Blue Day. Which means we wore blue all day, ate blue foods, and then ended the day by watching the football game. (We go over to another family's house to watch it). Here are a few shots of our Blue Day.

Blue Blueberry Pancakes

Blue egg salad sandwiches with Blue lumpy. The sandwiches were really blue although they look greenish. (Lumpy= yummy jello salad, a family favorite). I know it kind of looks repulsing but looks can be deceiving.

We made Blue snickerdoodles to take with us to the game.

Cade in Blue jammies and blue Binky. (I totally forget to get a picture of Cole and I in our Blue!)

We had a fun blue day.

New Temple

Temples are a very important part of my church. We are encouraged to attend the temple often to serve and to worship. I have always lived close to one until now. The closest one is in Nebraska about 3 1/2 hours away. BUT...this past weekend there has been 5 new temples announced to be built. One of those will serve the people of the greater Kansas City area. How exciting is that!! And the timing could not be more perfect! According to the church website, the "site will be in Clay County, Missouri, on residential land within the Kansas City limits that is already being developed by the Church." With our calculations this is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours away which will shave an hour of travel time both ways. Woo hoo! Hopefully it will be completed in the time that we will be living here!

The Evolution of Bathtime

Cade being bathed for the first time at the hospital by the nurses.

Cade taking a sponge bath at home. He hated every second.

Cade taking a bath with the infant attachment. He was terrified every time.
Cade taking a bath sitting up in his baby bath. He is starting to tolerate and even sometime enjoy baths.

And tonight was the first time we took a real big boy bath.
And he loved it!

Pet Peeve

Just to preface:
Since I have been to Kansas I am learning how to take Cade on errands with me. Up until this point I never had to because I was either working, Cole was home, or it was summer and I had no car because Cole was at work.

One of my pet peeves is when people do not return their shopping cart to the designated place in the parking lot. SO annoying. They always get in the way and they typically are right in the middle of the best parking places. I really don't think it is that hard to take an extra 15 seconds to take the cart to its designate parking slot. I always make sure I do. I think it is plain common courtesy for others to do the same. (and lots do!)

With that said, yesterday I didn't for the first time. I feel really guilty. I am confessing. But what is a mother to do?! Yesterday I ran to Walmart to get a couple of things. I put Cade in the car then transfer the bag into the car. Then I look around and all the shopping cart slots are like forever away! I don't like leaving Cade in the car (either on or off) but now I have this cart to deal with. A couple parking slots away there were several carts pulled together by either lazy people (or distressed mothers) so that was very tempting. But feeling guilty for even being tempted I headed to a far away designated spot. But as I began walking I realized it was going to take forever to get there and back-or at least longer than I wanted Cade in the car by himself. So as I was passing other bestrewn carts I quickly shoved mine next to another one. I felt really guilty. Like walking fast back to the car with my eyes on the ground guilty. Then as I was getting into my car a guy in the car in front of me had just gotten back from returning his cart and made some witty comment about returning carts. Great. My first time not returning the cart and I was watched. So Walmart-you want us to return the carts, make more cart returning spots!!
(ok-so next time I guess I would take Cade to the cart returning spot and then carry him back. Or maybe worries about leaving him in the car for a few seconds is just a new mother anxiety thing...)

A redeeming quality for Walmart is that they are the only store around here that carries Blue Bell Ice Cream. We very much enjoy that.
