Too Good To Be True

I am sure that most of you know about the KFC offer. Oprah announced that KFC was offering a free dinner to everyone in America. All you had to do was print the coupon off and take it into a KFC to be redeemed. From what I heard it was a pretty good dinner too-yummy grilled chicken, sides, and a biscuit leaving everyone full and happy.

We went the day we printed the coupon and of course the place was a mad house. So we decided to wait a few days for the hype to go down to enjoy our delicious free dinner in a much less crowded environment. Today was that day and we were very stoked. As we passed our coupons to the cashier she said, "Oh yeah sorry we are not doing that anymore?" Excuse me!? Not doing what? Your part of the deal? Your promise of a free dinner to everyone? She explained that as of Thursday they stopped because the company could not afford it. Really? Some accountant really screwed up his numbers then. She then gave us a sheet to fill out that gave some explanation about the overwhelming demand and that our request for the free meal could not be granted at that time. We were to give our information and they would send us coupons in the mail at a later time. We left to go pay for food somewhere else.

We were so frustrated. Here we are hungry and all excited about our free meal (and had been since the beginning of that week) and now we are denied-all because the company messed up? Did they really not think people were going to jump at the chance of a yummy free dinner? Maybe it was just our KFC since we are in a college town and, therefore, a huge amount of the population is already scrounging around for free food? Did you get a free KFC or did you get turned away too?

Moral of the story: If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

We didn't get the coupon because they basically shut the website down towards the end of the evening that they were available. They CEO of KFC was on Oprah and said they would honor them, but clearly that isn't true. Seriously, in a time of everyone losing jobs and getting pay cuts how did they not factor in that it would be a big deal? Especially after they did it on Oprah! lame...

my husband and i both went and each got a free dinner! the sides were yummy but not a huge fan of the chicken. we went the day oprah announced the deal and there was nobody there. we both thought it'd be a mad house too. but we're in az= and not exactly in a college town either. i don't know if they're still offering it...maybe i'll try again tonight?!
